During my first part-time job as a shop assistant at Toko Y-von in Dordrecht, I eventually also started doing graphic design work for both recurring and one-off occasions. This included both print and digital work, such as social media announcements, price lists for seasonal promotions, and materials like menu boards and flags for the Toko Y-Von food stand, which is part of the annual Dordrecht Pasar Malam.

The work I did here was very formative for me as a designer. There was often little time or room for a formal briefing, and the process was very much focused on getting results. I was still fairly new to graphic design when I first started doing these assignments. So in the beginning there was a lot of trial and error, especially with larger assignments. Over time, however, I improved my skills and developed a more refined approach.
An advantage that eventually became apparent is that when working with a recurring client, you come know what does and doesn’t work for them. However, I believe that what I learned from my experience with this client can very well be applicable to any client: knowing how to work with limited information and time, make decisions independently, and still deliver an effective result.
